Listed here are just a few of the yarns that we carry at our shop, so if you don't see what you are looking for, please call or send us an email for the entire yarn list.
New Arrivals for May/ June
We have a few new items, so here we go:
Clover has introduced some new needle felting tools for enthusiasts. They now make a needle felting pen that holds up to 3 needles (which are included) to be used in tight areas for fine detail work. They also work well with their new form molds so you can easily create 3-D appliqués for your projects. Another helpful tool recently introduced can be used to blend fibers for custom colors and content and even be used to clean the Clover needle felting mat.
Kristin Nicholas now has her own line of yarn made by Nashua to accompany her new book “Kristin Knits”. We just received our shipment of her yarn “Julia” in 22 fabulous colors for your knitting pleasure! One of our esteemed test knitters says “It is sooooo wonderful! It knits like butter.” It’s no wonder. It is a blend of 50% Wool, 25% Alpaca and 25% Mohair. Need I say more?
For those of you who adore sock knitting, we have just received a shipment of the hand dyed sock yarns from Pagewood Farms. If you haven’t seen or tried their yarns yet you should check them out on your next trip to the shop. The colors are very clear, the yarn is heavenly to knit and the outstanding yardage on each skein makes them highly recommended by our in-house sock sensei. Another new sock yarn arrival comes from The Alpaca Yarn Company. Paca-Peds is a superwash alpaca blend yarn that includes a coordinating heel and toe yarn to help re-enforce those areas that endure the most abuse. These are also hand dyed so the colors look fabulous.
The Drawstring Hat
This is a fun little hat to make if you need a project to keep your hands out of mischief!
Materials:
2 balls Fashion Trend or approx. 198 yards of a worsted weight yarn.
# 8 16” circular needle
Gauge:
4 stitches to 1 inch over stockinette stitch.
Sizes: 21”, 22”, 23” (small, medium, large).

YO= yarn over
Inc= knit into front and back of stitch.

Using the # 8 circular needle, cast on 84 (88, 92) stitches. Place a marker and begin working in the round. You can have your choice here as to how you want the hat band to look. You can do an inch of K1P1 rib or 1 inch of garter stitch. I made mine with a rolled edge by working 2 rows of stockinette stitch after the cast on edge, then I worked 4 rows ( 2 ridges) of garter stitch. Now continue knitting every row until there is a total of 9 inches from the cast on edge, ending at the marker. If you want you can add a few rows of garter stitch interspersed throughout the body of the hat for some textural interest.
Next Row: *K4, yo. Repeat from * around to the marker.
Next Row: *K3, K 2 tog. ( You’ll be knitting a stitch together with the yo from the previous row. This will create the holes for the drawstring ).
Now, continue knitting in stockinette stitch for another 10-11 rows or about 2 inches. If you want the top to stand up an bit, finish the last 2 inches with a K1P1 rib. If you want it to curl down, finish the last 2 inches with stockinette stitch. Cast off and make an I-cord about 20 “ long for the drawstring.
I-cord: Cast on 2 stitches onto your # 8 circular needle or onto a # 8 double pointed needle. Knit those 2 stitches, then slide them back to the other end of the needle, (the side of the needle that you started from). Bring the yarn around the back of the knitting pulling up snugly and knit again. Repeat this until the I-cord is about 20 inches long. When you have reached the 20 inches, knit the 2 stitches together, cut the yarn and pull the loop through. Darn in the ends and thread the I-cord through the eyelet holes in the top of the hat. Pull up tight and fasten with a knot or tie into a bow. You are now the proud owner of a Drawstring Hat!
